Enhancing the Urban Fabric

Our aim in Berwick is to preserve the past, enjoy the present and build for the future.

Although all towns suffer from carelessly discarded litter, visitors regularly comment on Berwick’s clean streets and open spaces. The effort of local people and visitors to the town is assisted by the local authority providing regular street-cleaning and well-placed litter bins.

Residents and shopkeepers bring colour to the environment with hanging baskets, flower containers and well-kept gardens.

Until recently, the town centre has lacked floral displays, but traders’ organisations and residents’ groups are working together to improve the visual effect by planting attractive and fragrant plants.

In 2008, the town entered the Northumbria in Bloom Competition for the first time and gained a Bronze Award. Click here to find out more about Northumbria in Bloom.
