As part of its activities it organises a variety of activities and events such as educational projects, tastings, dinners with a particular theme and visits to producers and places with a food and drink interest. Slow Food Berwick also organises the Berwick Food Festival, which is held on the second weekend in September each year. This has grown to become a major feature in the town's annual calendar, attracting over 7,000 visitors and dozens of stalls selling the best of food and drink from Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Other attractions of the event include a Beer Festival, cookery demonstrations and competitions, children's activities and a display of rare breeds animals.
The forming of a Slow Food Group (or Convivium) is a necessary step for a town to complete the process of Cittaslow accreditation. Berwick Slow Food Group led a recent project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund that explored and celebrated Berwick's unrivalled heritage of producing and processing food and drink.
